DEDICATED to protecting and defending the rights and dignity of our clients through zealous, compassionate, high quality legal advocacy.
Code of Virginia §19.2-163.03, requires an attorney seeking to represent an indigent person accused in criminal cases, in addition to being a member in good standing of the Virginia State Bar, to satisfy the training and experience requirements to be eligible for Certification.
Court-appointed counsel and public defenders must comply with the Standards and Rules of Professional Conduct. The Standards give meaning to the Sixth Amendment right to counsel and further the overall goal of zealous and high quality legal representation for each and every client.
“[I]n our adversary system of criminal justice, any person haled into court, who is too poor to hire a lawyer, cannot be assured a fair trial unless counsel is provided for him. This seems to us to be an obvious truth . . . .”
